Marion E. "Moe" Smith, Principal of
Glencoe High School, received Jacksonville State
University�s Health, Physical Education, and Recreation
Department�s 2007-2008 Male Outstanding Alumnus Award.
He received his B.S. Degree in 1971 and MS in Education
in 1977 from JSU. Moe earned an Administration Add-on
Certification from the University of Alabama in 1984.
Moe began his teacher/coaching
career in 1971 at Pell City High School. In 1977, he
made the move to Glencoe High School as teacher/coach.
In 1985, Moe was the Assistant Principal of Glencoe
Middle School, and since 1988, has served as Principal
of Glencoe High School.
Moe's many accomplishments include:
1991 to present, Area and Region Coordinator for
football, basketball, baseball, and softball and
Chairman of the Bryant-Jordan Program; 1993 to present,
Secretary/Treasurer of the 6th District Athletic Board;
1994-2007, served as a member, Vice President and
President of AHSAA Central Board of Control; 1998-99,
served on the State Superintendent of Education Task
Force to make eligibility requirements more stringent
for athletics and extracurricular activities; 1998-2000,
served on the State Selection Committees for Alabama
High School Sports Hall of Fame and Bryant-Jordan
Program; 1999-2000, Chairman of Statewide Public
School/Private School Relations Committee, and from 2003
to present, served on the Building Committee for a new
AHSAA building.
In 2005, Moe was honored with an
induction into the Alabama High School Sports Hall of
Fame and the same year, he received the Jacksonville
State University Athletic Hall of Fame Distinguished
Alumni Service Award.
Kandy and Moe are married with a
daughter, Christa Smith Urban (son-in-law Andy Urban),
son, Casey Smith, and grandson, Brayden Urban.� Kandy
and Moe�s hard work and many accomplishments shine a
bright light on the HPER program at JSU.
The Department of Health, Physical Education, and
Recreation at JSU would like to congratulate both Kandy
and Moe on their many accomplishments and contributions
in the field. They have represented our department and
JSU extremely well.
