Kandy G. Smith, Physical Education teacher at
John Jones Elementary School, Rainbow City, AL since 1977, recently
received Jacksonville State University�s Health, Physical Education,
and Recreation (HPER) Department�s 2007-2008 Female Outstanding
Alumna Award. She received her B.S. Degree in Physical Education
from JSU in 1972.
For the past 35 years, Kandy has been an
exceptional professional in the field of physical education. Her
many accomplishments include: Top money Raiser in Etowah County as
Coordinator of Jump Rope for Heart, 2007 Certified Star
Sportsmanship Program Instructor, County Coordinator for Elementary
Track Meets for Etowah County PE Teachers, Chairperson for John
Jones Elementary Text Book and Fixed Assets programs, and Cheer
Coach at Glencoe High School for 20 years where her squad won State
runner-ups twice in the Nation/WCA Nationals.
In addition, Kandy has hosted numerous Practice
teachers and Practicum students from JSU as well as conducted many
Etowah County PE teacher workshops. She serves as a member of the
Board of Directors Alabama Cheer Coaches Association and Alabama
State Association for Health, PE, Recreation, and Dance.
Kandy states her objective after many years of
teaching PE is: "My class is the best class everyday for each
student!"
