Welcome to the College of Education and Professional Studies at Jacksonville State University. Our quality undergraduate and graduate programs are designed for your immediate and long term career success. Classes may be scheduled via distance learning; in a traditional classroom; at a field site; during the day, evening, academic year or summer.  Students find faculty and staff to be student-centered, knowledgeable professionals. State-of-the-art technology is available and used for instruction in each of the programs.

The College of Education and Professional Studies is fully accredited by the Alabama State Department of Education, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, the National Association for Industrial Technology, and the American Dietetic Association. Students, clubs, faculty and programs have received regional and national awards. The College hosts the long standing Jacksonville State University Teacher Hall of Fame for the annual state winners. The Education unit, largest in Alabama, among the 15th largest in the Southeast and 40th largest in the nation has been graduating outstanding educators for more than a century.

……Curriculum and I..\ci\index.htmlnstruction provides programs for teachers interested in degrees in Early Childhood (P-3), Elementary (K-6), Collaborative Teacher K-6 and 6-12 (Special Education), Early Childhood Special Education, and Reading Specialist.

……Family and Consumer Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education with a teaching field in Family and Consumer Sciences and a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Family and Consumer Sciences with five concentrations:  Child Development, Human Sciences, Merchandising, Dietetics, and Restaurant and Foodservice Management.

……Educational Resources offers programs in education administration, school counseling, service courses in educational psychology, and instructional media. Other program offerings include programs in agency counseling as well as programs for secondary teachers, school administrators and counselors.

……Secondary Education offers teaching certification programs and advanced degrees in secondary teacher education. 

……Health, Physical Education and Recreation offers degrees in Recreation Administration and Exercise Science and Wellness as well as the teaching field in Physical Education.

……The Communication Department focuses on developing well-rounded communication professionals capable of interpreting and meeting the challenges of an exciting, ever-changing industry. Areas of concentration for the degree include Radio/TV Production; Print Journalism; Public Relations; New Media. The Department houses the student-produced campus newspaper, radio station and yearbook.

…… The Technology Department offers courses leading to the Bachelor of Science degree with four available majors: Computer Integrated Manufacturing Systems, Electronics, Occupational Safety and Health, and Technology with a concentration in Industrial Technology Management or a minor. These focus on the technological needs of manufacturing industries and are designed to prepare management-oriented technical professionals.

……The Child Development Center at McClellan welcomes children ages six weeks to school age.  Best practices in education are modeled in all classrooms.  The Center promotes a play-oriented environment that encourages active exploration.  

……Television Services, an academic support unit, is an award-winning video production team specializing in the creation of customized professional-quality video programming.

……Instructional Services Unit provides resources to the university and the community through offering a wide variety of services including support of clinical services, and media resources.

……Teacher Service Center is a comprehensive service center designed to facilitate student progression through the teacher education program, from admission to entry into the job market. The Teacher Service Center coordinates the recruitment, admission, program design, registration, retention, clinical experience, and certification process for education students.
