Look What’s Going on in SPE300/01
Learning about different cultures and how they are
perceived by others is a very important lesson for future teachers to learn when
facing the diverse classrooms of today's public school.

Have you ever considered how it might be possible for all
cultures to sound crude, bizarre, and ritualistic when they are viewed through
the eyes of outsiders? Can you describe everyday events as shaving, ear
piercing, and brushing teeth so they don’t sound like primitive customs? Our
class talked about how doctors, dentists, and football games can even be made to
sound sadistic. How easy is it to place negative interpretations on customs that
seem foreign?
