It is truly an honor to join the Executive Board of the Association for the Tutoring Profession and to serve as chair of the Distance Tutoring Committee.
I have taught Developmental English as ESL for much longer than I care to put in writing. I served as Chair of the Developmental Studies at Houston Community College, and as part of my duties, I developed the face-to-face English tutoring program, which I also supervised for fifteen years. In 2006, as a result of long conversations about the future of tutoring, a group of us decided that we wanted to look at mechanisms for providing in-house, online tutoring to as many of our 55,000 students as we could. It has been a wild ride, but also wildly successful.
As the ATP moves into an increasingly digital age, I am privileged to be part of that explosive growth into new, virtually uncharted territory.
