Theatre at
Jacksonville State University has a long history dating to productions in the
1940's. JSU Drama became professionally accredited by the National
Association of Schools of Theatre in 1994. The department
constantly strives to stay on the cutting edge of technology by
attending national workshops on lighting, sound, stagecrafts, and
safety, as well as upgrading technology, equipment, and practices. The department is also dedicated to providing students with a strong liberal arts background in addition to a strong overall theatre experience. Students are giving the opportunity to write, direct, and perform; design and build sets, props, and costumes; design and execute lighting and sound for productions; or manage productions and "front-of-house".
|
| Students are encouraged to attend regional and national theatre auditions such as Outdoor Drama and Southeastern Theatre Conference auditions yearly. Designers and Technicians are encouraged to participate in regional and national portfolio reviews. Many students find summer work through these auditions and portfolio reviews. |
