Etiquette and Teddy Bears (Grades 1-3, rising)

This Teddy Bear Tea is an imaginary tea to the White House.  Mrs. Millie Chastain leads the students in discussions and in practicing the etiquette of going to tea.  Teddy Bear Tea and Etiquette will teach the student about using good manners.

Why the White House?

Teddy the Bear is the first teddy bear.  He was named after President Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt.  President Roosevelt was an outdoors man who enjoyed hunting.  On one hunting trip in 1902, he refused to shoot a young timid bear.  A cartoonist learned of this incident and made a cartoon out of the story which appeared in The Washington Star.  The cartoon was seen by a toymaker.  The toymaker created a bear that looked like the young bear President Roosevelt refused to shoot.  He named it, Teddy’s Bear.  The rest is history!  Bring your Teddy Bear and come to Teddy Bear Tea and Etiquette.

Each student will receive a Tea and Etiquette Workbook, a booklet with recipes and etiquette tips, and a certificate for Tea and Etiquette presented at tea.

Menu

Tea Sandwiches, Iced Raspberry Tea or Peach Tea with mint and lemon, Small Cakes, Fruit, Muffins with whip cream, Cookies, and nuts.
