• In class, we will each present what we've learned about Repast S over the past week.
• We will make an informed decision as to whether to proceed with Repast or explore other options for the final week of class.

Wednesday July 23, 2008

• Here is a link to a tutorial article on Repast S.
• Read this article "Ecosystems, Organisms and Machines". We will discuss this on Monday and view a related video.
• Also read "Ecology, Complexity and Metaphor".

Tuesday July 22, 2008

• Pursuant to our discussion in class, complete the tutorial using Repast S.  We will meet on Wednesday at 12:30pm to discuss questions on the tutorial and your ideas for further development of a complex system model using Repast S.
• Note the additional link for 'Agent Based Modeling Systems' on the right navigation panel.

Monday July 21, 2008

• We will discuss the results of your research on Agent based systems in class.  You should have identified 2-4 software packages appropriate for use in a modeling project.

Wednesday July 16, 2008

• Browse the Repast/Download site from the link navigation panel on the right.
• Read the article "Tutorial on Agent-Based Modeling and Simulation" by North and Macal.  As we discussed in class this has some of the same content as the article we read earlier, but it is a bit more detailed and so worth the time to read. 
• Read the third article in the set by North and Macal as well, this is "Tutorial on Agent-Based Modeling and Simulation Part 2: How to Model with Agents". Since we've come this far, we might as well read the rest.  The more we read, the more sense it starts to make.

• Browse this article on Repast S.
• Here is an interesting introduction to agents. I suggest you read Section One - the Introduction, and if your interest is piqued, you may want to delve into Section Two which is Agent Theory. Yes, it's a bit dated, but never-the-less, it provides a solid introduction.

• Read this INTRODUCTION TO MODELING AND SIMULATION. It is a short but quite good description. 
• We will probably experiment with this simulation builder on Monday.

• Read THIS REVIEW of the book "Innovation, Evolution and Complexity Theory".  About 3/4 down the page, the article suggests further resources for MABS (What the author calls Multi-Agent Based Simulation).  Note the discussion of KISS vs. KIDS.
