This is an introductory, survey e-Commerce class. It will provide a basic understanding of e-commerce issues for all business majors. For those of you who choose to major in e-Commerce it will serve as a foundation course for future studies. Topics include Web navigation, Web design, Web business models, Web marketing and Web analytics.

The class concentrates on current issues and the new Dot-Com boom, referred to by many as Web 2.0 . We will focus on the newest mechanisms for revenue generation on the Web. Many of these are driven the the phenomenal growth in Search Engine Marketing and so much of the class discussion will be drawn from the headlines of papers such as the Wall Street Journal. We will also examine numerous Web sites and a few case studies relevant to the topics.

You will have several topical tests, and you will be required to submit one major paper which will describe in detail an affiliate business model Web site you would like to create.

There is no textbook per se, for this class, but we will use the Web site Managing the Digital Enterprise and the Wall Street Journal as our guides to the discussion of the conduct of business on the Internet.

As we progress through the class you'll find course documents and links to other sites here as well as in Blackboard.

If you're not familiar with Blackboard, take a few minutes and learn about it HERE. You will find tutorials and other basic information. NOTE that you will also need to know how to access your GEM account.
