What is Academic Forgiveness?
When a student performs poorly during a semester, in comparison to other semesters attended due to personal, emotional or financial circumstances, all grades for that semester may be removed from the student's record. May be awarded only once and erases even acceptable grades earned that semester.
Am I eligible for Academic Forgiveness?
A student becomes eligible for Academic Forgiveness when they have obtained a 2.0 GPA.
Where may I apply for Academic Forgiveness?
An application for Academic Forgiveness may be obtained from the dean's
office of the college of your major. Applications for undecided majors
may be obtained from the Office of the Associate Vice President for Academic
Affairs, 201 Bibb
Where do I go to change my major or to see an advisor?
To change a major, a student should must go to the department of the new major and request a change of major and a new advisor.
Who can I see if my advisor is not available during advisement and registration?
When a student's assigned advisor is unavailable for advisement, staff in the departmental office of the major can assist with scheduling an appointment with an alternate advisor in the major.
Advisement and registration may be processed in the departmental office of your major. Students who have undecided majors should go to Learning Services, basement of Cole Library or Military Science Department, Rowe Hall.
How may I apply for reinstatement after suspension or dismissal?
Academic Suspension is for one semester/term. After the suspension
period is up, a student may submit a letter requesting reinstatement and
register in the Office of the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs,
201 Bibb
Academic Dismissal is for one calendar year. After the dismissal
period is up, a student may submit a letter requesting reinstatement and
register in the Office of the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs,
201 Bibb
If the minimum GPA for the reinstated semester is not maintained, the student is placed on Academic Dismissal.
If I need a tutor, where can I go to find help?
Tutors are available on the 3rd floor of TMB, at no charge to the student. To schedule a tutor, contact Ann Poe, Tutoring Services, 782-5343.
When should I go to academic advisement?
Students should schedule an appointment to see their academic adviser prior to the registration period.

The classes I registered for were "erased" from the computer, why?
Registration may be voided if a student does not pay tuition by the confirmation date. Students should contact the Office of the Bursar, 782-5458 or online via the my.jsu.edu, to check their account and then re-register for courses at their major college/departmental office.
I am a new student and was unable to register for Math or English courses, why?
Students must have ACT, SAT or Placement scores sent to the Admissions Office and must meet the required minimum to register for English and Math courses. The minimum scores for placement in English and Math can be found in the department section of the catalogue.
