Old Business:

  1. Minutes of the November 7, 2007 meeting were approved as submitted.

  1. Mr. Randy Harper provided a Banner update. Now into our second semester of employment with no major problems to report, projects currently under way include Luminis content management and imaging systems, which still need to be fully integrated. A May time frame for these two projects is planned. Work flow is also under development to bring new applications into the system. Mr. Hubbard commented that the content management system was now up and running after a few minor delays and looks good.

3.                  There was no further old business.

New Business

  1. Dr. James Rayburn reported Banner issues questions being raised by Faculty Senate, especially a grade reporting crunch due to all grades being due at the same time. The number of classes having grades due at the end of the finals week needs to be reviewed with an eye to alleviating the situation. Starting the semester one day earlier would be helpful. Questions concerning WP/WF/ I grades are also being raised. Ms. Osterbind commented that faculty members have been very understanding about the grading situations arising due to Banner implementation.

  1. Dr. Turner asked everyone to be certain to put the January 28 Board of Trustees meeting on their calendars. The meeting is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend. Dr. Wade will present in the morning session on his college and Dr. Tim King will present in the afternoon on Enrollment Management initiatives.

  1. There were no further items of new business.

Announcements

Dr. Frank King asked that IVC sites be considered in connection with promoting JSU. He also reported that video-conference sites could be used more extensively. The state’s ACCESS project will provide over 270 schools with IVC capability. Dr. Turner pointed to the governor’s interest in seeing ACCESS succeed.

Ms. Osterbind announced that her office is looking into issues surrounding non-registered students attending classes and requesting credit retroactively via letters from professors. She also mentioned that PINs are not being cleared to allow students to drop and add classes. She provided a handout including the message texts emailed to students who were in danger of being dropped due to nonpayment. A tabbed menu might bring resolution to some of the full-access issues presented by the current registration system.

Dr. Tim King announced that AACRAO consultants would be returning to campus, a message with further details to be sent via email. An afternoon session will be dedicated to defining Enrollment Management.

Ms. Taylor announced a musical salute to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at 7 p.m.

Dr. Turner announced Dr. Meehan’s upcoming trip with the governor to China in April. The visit will help establish closer relations with Chinese institutions of higher education. Dr. Turner will also talk on Chinese-US educational ties in an upcoming AASCU academic affairs meeting.
