Dr. Meehan reported a 1:00 meeting with the Emergency Management Group
to discuss weather plans and closings for the University. An
official announcement will be made at 2:00 p.m.
Preparations are being made to insure the safety and well being of the
students who remain on campus. The cafeteria has an emergency
generator to allow them to remain open, should power be lost. Dr.
Meehan asked that any concerns regarding loss of power be directed to
UPD.
Chief Schneider reported by Thursday, winds will be around 55
MPH. The EMA will be answering life and limb type calls only, the
UPD will operate under the same rule. The storm could hover over
the area until Monday. A decision regarding Monday classes will
be made over the weekend.
Minutes of the August 18, 2004 meeting were reviewed and approved.
FALL ENROLLMENT: Mr. Smith reported fall enrollment down slightly from
last year, but the 8,930 student figure ties in second highest
enrollment ever.
Dr. Turner asked deans to review the enrollment figures and if a
decrease is noted in their area to determine what the reasons may be.
POLICY ON EMPLOYEES HAVING SECONDARY JOBS AT JSU: Dr. Turner reported a
policy for employees of who have secondary jobs at JSU which will make
the wage and hour reconciliation process more efficient.
MINUTES FROM AGSC: Dr. Turner requested AC Members review the minutes
from the July AGSC meeting and be aware of the next meeting November 4
on the JSU Campus.
MEMO FROM FACULTY HONORS COMMITTEE: Dr. Turner reported the call for
nominations for Emeriti Faculty will go out soon. She requested
Deans urge faculty to nominate retired faculty within their department.
RECOMMENDATION FOR REDESIGN OF CLASS SCHEDULE BOOK: Dean Carr reported
the recommendations on redesign of the class schedule booklets and
asked for a motion to accept these recommendations. The
recommendations are 1) to list courses by field of study in
alphabetical order regardless of the administrative unit offering the
course, 2) to list undergraduate and graduate courses together, but
with subheadings of Undergraduate and Graduate, 3) to eliminate
separate sections which are duplicative material, which include
off-campus, video-based, online and videoconferencing courses, and 4)
to eliminate separate course listings by term for May, Summer I, Summer
II and Marathon terms.
Amendment one was made to include an index in the schedule book and was
unanimously approved.
Amendment two was made to list Distance Education in a separate
section, but also include in the section of all alphabetic
listings. Seventeen members were in favor of the amendment, with
one member in opposition. Motion to accept amendment two was
approved.
The motion to accept the recommendations was made with seventeen
members in favor and one member in opposition. Motion to accept
recommendations was approved.
EMERGENCY PLAN: Dr. Turner requested AC members decide on a time for
closing the University. Members agreed that classes should be
canceled at 4:30 on Wednesday, September 15. Dr. Turner will
carry the recommended closing schedule to Dr. Meehan at a 1:00 meeting.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Dr. Jenkins announced Preview Day, October 16.
Ms. Campbell announced the Spring schedule book will be disseminated
this afternoon for proofing. Ms. Campbell also asked that
departments notify pre-registered students when any change is made to a
course for which they are registered. Ms. Campbell made AC
members aware that students who are in the National Guard might be
deployed for storm duty. Any student being deployed should
contact ROTC to complete necessary paperwork.
Mr. Hubbard announced author T. R. Pearson will speak on September 23
at 7:00 on the 11th floor of the Library.
Dr. King announced a 4,572 individual students enrolled in all online
courses and Blackboard supplement courses in Fall 2004. There
were 2,093 enrollments in Blackboard Online courses and 5,136
enrollments in Blackboard supplements. Other online formats had
228 enrollments. There were 23 enrolled in Blackboard
workshop type courses during the fall and 7,846 enrollments in all
distance learning formats including supplements in fall 2004.
Dr. Delap announced department requests for browse section needs for
Preview Day will be disseminated soon.
