Department Scholarships

The Department of Communication offers scholarships to qualified students.

WJSU-TV Scholarship

The WJSU-TV scholarship is awarded once a year to an outstanding entering freshman. To qualify, applicant must: be a high school senior; meet all requirements for a freshman entering JSU; have a minimum ACT composite score of 25; and have a minimum high school GPA of 3.25. The scholarship is valued at $500.00 per semester for a total of 8 semesters or $4,000.00 maximum. Application deadline is March 15.

Scholarship for Continuing Communication Students

Scholarships for continuing communication majors (approximately $200) are awarded during the fall and spring semesters. Applicant must have completed 12 hours of communication courses at JSU, and have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Applicant is judged on commitment to the major and to the communication field. Participation in the Society of Professional Journalists, WLJS-FM radio, The Chanticleer student newspaper, and the Public Relations Organization, as well as attendance at Department of Communication functions, and/or professional media employment are considered. Application deadlines are September 30 and January 31.
