In the home debut of first year head coach Neil Macdonald, the Gamecocks rolled past the Alabama A&M Bulldogs 4-0.
While the early moments of the game were scoreless on both sides the Gamecocks scored the first of their four goals after the first 45 minutes of play. The goal came from junior Jackie Rush, who would go on to score another goal later on in the game.
Rush has had a multitude of success already this season with her first goal of this game being her fourth on the season. This game marked the third time this season that she has had multiple goals in a game. She was recognized by the OVC over the weekend.
It was just three minutes after the Gamecocks’ first goal that Rush scored, JSU found the net again on a shot from sophomore Olivia Drapes.
Then it was Brianna Boutziouvis that would score, first in the 61st minute and then once more in the 81st minute. The game against Alabama A&M marked the first time that Boutziouvis has scored multiple goals in a match.
It was all Gamecocks for the remainder of the game with the Bulldogs not having a single score. The Gamecocks controlled the possession of the ball for most of the game and out-shot A&M 26-3. While Rush and Boutziouvis were the only ones to score points five different Gamecocks took shots throughout the night.
The Gamecocks moved to a 2-2-1 record for the season while the Bulldogs of A&M fell to 0-5.
JSU will be at home for most of September after playing their first four matches of the season away from Jacksonville. They will host the rival Troy Trojans this Friday night, followed by an away trip to Mercer.
After that, the Gamecocks will return home for their next four games.
They are scheduled to begin OVC play with Eastern Kentucky on Sept. 27.
