A fast start for the Gamecocks yields more wins than last year

While the football team is still preparing for its first game, the soccer team has already begun to play.

The soccer team jumped out to a fast start with a 3-1 record, already an improvement on the 2011 record of 2-13-4.

"We're much more of an offensive threat," says head coach Julie Carlson.

Coach Carlson also credits the team's early success to its nine seniors.

"A lot of those seniors have come back with a new found purpose," said Coach Carlson. "They're giving it everything they can when they're given the opportunity."

One returning senior is midfielder Katie Manns. Manns suffered a knee injury at the end of the 2011 season, which required surgery.

"She's come back very well," said Coach Carlson. "She's earned her starting spot back and has been playing most of the minutes in every game."

The Gamecocks return to action on August 31st against Stetson University at Troy University's Trojan Classic.
