Storms throwing golf ball-size hail flew over Jacksonville State University this past Monday, causing quite a ruckus on the quaint campus.
The Houston Cole Library had to be evacuated after sustaining damage on the roof. Specifically, the radio tower that was used by WLJS.
At one point the tower was hanging on the side of the building.
It was then that the library was evacuated.
Houston Cole will be closed until further notice.
The library was not the only building to take damage.
Campus Inn Apartments took significant damage when the efficiency apartments lost the entire roof.
Up to fifty-six students could be displaced because of the damage.
President William A. Meehan was thankful that no one was injured in the accident.
President Meehan went on to add that JSU Housing, the Physical Plant, and the Maintenance staff acted swiftly to secure the safety of the tenants in Campus Inn and begin the cleanup process.
The extent of the damage is not yet known, however, the displaced students will be relocated to other housing for the remainder of the semester.
