Jacksonville State edged Murray State last weekend and now faces a tough UT- Martin team on the road.
The Gamecocks are positioned to have a chance at the OVC title. If the Jax State beats UTM, they will tie OVC records and JSU will benefit from the head to head tie breaker.
Tennessee State and Eastern Kentucky are still ahead of JSU as well. The Tigers barely won last week on a TD pass as time expired to beat Tennessee Tech. If TSU slips up and gains a second loss, JSU will again hold the head to head tie breaker. The Colonels currently have the tie breaker over JSU and don’t face much of a threat to be beaten again, but in the OVC anythings possible.
During JSU’s game against Murray State, Racer QB Casey Brockman passed the all-time OVC passing record. Another OVC record fell Saturday when Eastern Illinois receiver Erik Lora broke the conference record in receptions.
After UTM, the Gamecocks return home to face Austin Peay. The Govs have yet to win a game, though they have a good shot to this Saturday, giving JSU a good chance to go unbeaten at home for the first time since 2008.
