The AECTP basic skills assessments are administered by ACT and consist of the Applied Mathematics assessment, the Reading for Information assessment, and the Writing assessment. You are required to pass the assessments as a precondition for certification if you are a prospective teacher completing a teacher education program, or applying for certifiation through other approaches to certification, including alternative and preliminary routes, on or after January 1, 2003. In addition, individuals seeking to reinstate teaching certificates that have lapsed more than six months are also subject to meeting the test requirements as a precondition for the certificate.
Please refer to the Alabama Department of Education website for additional information concerning test candidacy specifications, including certain exemptions. Please note: Individuals that currently hold valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificates are not subject to APTTP.
You may register for the required assessments online at www.act.org/alabamapttp. Printed registration packets are also available. Telephone registration is available by calling 1-800-294-2105 or 319-341-2500.
