Counseling and Testing Services Residual ACT

General Information
Taking the Residual ACT will provide you with an ACT score that will only be used by JSU for your admission to our university.

Test questions measure your knowledge in several subject areas - English, mathematics, reading, and science.

Pre-registration is required and seating is limited. The cost of the test is $60.00, paid at time of registration. Register by phone with a credit card or pay in person. No stand-by registration. Registration closes at 4:00 p.m. the day before the test if there are seats still available. Examinees should bring No. 2 lead pencils, photo ID (ex., driver's license), and a calculator approved by ACT. Contact Counseling and Testing Services at (256) 782-5475.

Special Notes

  • ACT will allow for accommodations for the Residual ACT without contacting ACT. You must contact JSU's Disability support Services and provide proper documentation of the disability at least 2 weeks before testing. Documentation must be approved by JSU's Disability Support Services. (256) 782 8381.
  • JSU Testing Services will mail scores as soon as they become available. Scores are available usually within 4 weeks. 
  • Residual testing is not accepted for NCAA initial eligibility.
  • If a student has taken the Residual ACT and wants to take it again, they must wait 60 days  If the 60-day time limit is violated, the retest scores will be canceled automatically. No refund will be made for such canceled scores.
  • You may reschedule your test date once. If you do not take the Residual ACT on the rescheduled date, you will forfeit your registration fee. Registration fee is good for the testing year (September 1 thru November 30). No refunds will be given. Cancellations must be made at least 24hrs before testing date. Cancellations made less than 24hrs may be charged a $20 cancellation fee.

You MUST bring photo identification, No. 2 pencils, and a calculator.

No Cell Phones or other electronic devices (including Smart Watches) are allowed in the testing room. No Hooded Shirts/pockets.  If one of these are discovered during testing, you will be dismissed.

Please, arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled time. Once testing has started you cannot be admitted.

PARKING FOR RESIDUAL ACT
Examinees should park across the street in the parking lot in front of Brewer Hall.  JSU Police Department will allow parking from 12:00-4:30 on testing dates. Any examinees parking before the above time must obtain a visitor's parking decal from the Visitor's Center at the intersection of Hwy 21 and Hwy 204 or from Sall's Hall (University Police Department).
