Accounting Scholarships

This page lists the currently available accounting scholarships along with criteria for selection and a link to an application form. The applications should be returned no later than the due date shown on the application form. Please read the criteria carefully to ensure that you are eligible for the scholarship before you apply. A common application form has been created that incorporates the criteria for the various scholarships. Therefore, certain information on the application may carry varying amounts of consideration dependent upon the particular scholarship being applied for. Please use the link to the common application to print out the form and fill it out. Ensure that you check each of the scholarships on the application form that you wish to be considered for. Return the applications to Mrs. Pope in room 214 Merrill Building. All scholarships require that the recipient be enrolled at JSU for a sufficient number of hours during the award period to make use of the scholarship.

A. Alabama Society of CPAs



The requirements for these two scholarships are as follows:

  • Have completed Financial/Intermediate Accounting I prior to January 2010.
  • Have completed Financial/Intermediate Accounting II prior to Fall 2010.
  • Have "B" average in all accounting courses
  • Have "B" average overall
  • Have at least one full year left in school (fourth or fifth year)
  • Have declared a major in accounting
  • Enrolled with 6 hours per semester/12 hours per year
  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 in Accounting
  • Signature of a faculty sponsor on the application form

Some other considerations include:

  • Overall GPA
  • Home residence in Northeast Alabama
  • Leaderships positions held
  • Honors received
  • Campus involvement
  • Financial need
  • Prefer candidates with strong interest in a career in Alabama public accounting
  • Available to both undergraduate and graduate students


B. Collins-McCain Scholarship


This scholarship is awarded in honor of a former JSU accounting professor. Applicants for this scholarship should be students who currently are and plan to remain residents of the State of Alabama.

C. John Collins Scholarship


This scholarship is awarded in honor of a former JSU accounting professor.

D. Pearce, Bevill, Leesburg & Moore Scholarship


This scholarship is awarded by the accounting firm of Pearce, Bevill, Leesburg & Moore, P.C.

The requirements for the scholarship include:
  • Junior rank only (prior to January 2010)
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 in accounting
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 in courses completed at JSU
  • Completion of Financial Accounting I prior to January 2010.

Some other considerations include:
  • Good citizenship
  • Strength of character
  • Potential to enhance the profession
  • Participation in student activities
  • Initiative and industriousness


E. The Warren, Averett, Kimbrough & Marino, LLC Scholarship


This scholarship is awarded by the accounting firm of Warren, Averett, Kimbrough & Marino LLC.

The requirements for the scholarship include:
  • Demonstration of academic aptitude
  • Graduate of an Alabama high school
  • Accounting major
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0


F. Trathen Scholarship


This scholarship is awarded in honor of a former JSU accounting professor. It makes use of a point system for determining the recipient. Points are awarded on the basis of criteria in the following areas:
  1. Scholarship
    1. Class standing (Junior, Senior)
    2. Quality point average in accounting
    3. Quality point average for all subjects
  2. Service
    1. Student Accounting Association activities
    2. Membership in accounting organizations
    3. Membership in JSU organizations
  3. Integrity
