Current Research

Primary areas of research are: (1) elucidation of the mechanisms of regulation within the hypothalamus/pituitary/gonad axis in snakes and (2) growth regulation and reproduction in fish.

Fish growth and reproductive endocrinology.

Enhancement of growth rates in aquaculture species via probiotic treatments (in collaboration with Dr. Blair and Dr. Meade).

Regulatory pathways for oocyte maturation within hypothalamus/pituitary/gonad axis in aquaculture species (e.g., tilapia).

I solation, cloning and characterization of gonadotropins and their receptors in the copperhead, Agkistrodon contortrix.
Successfully cloned and sequenced a portion of the FSH receptor.

Current projects focusing on complete gene sequencing for FSHR, along with identification of the FSHß and LHß genes.

Tick-Borne Disease Detection and Ecology
Assessment of the presence of Borrelia burgdorferi and Rickettsia spp. in ticks from northeastern Alabama (in collaboration with Dr. Blair and Dr. Carter).
