Dear Class of 2017,

Welcome to Jacksonville State University.  As a first year student at JSU, you will encounter many opportunities to be successful in your pursuit of a college degree.  This is a time in your life when the choices you make affect your future, and we want to ensure that we do our best to guide you accordingly.  JSU has developed unique support systems, activities, programs and services to help you achieve your goals.  One of these is AlcoholEdu for College, an online web-based alcohol prevention program that is required of all freshman students.

AlcoholEdu for College is recognized nationally for its cutting edge research and effectiveness with the latest prevention techniques that educate students about the impact of alcohol.  AlcoholEdu for College is designed for all students, not just students who drink alcohol.  It is designed to empower students to make well-informed decisions about alcohol and to cope with the drinking behavior of others.

Every incoming freshman is required to take AlcoholEdu for College.  Beginning July 22, 2013 you will be able to access AlcoholEdu for College (www.everfi.com/register) with the following login ID:  C101480A.  Once you login, you will be directed to establish your very own login and password that you can use anytime you wish to access AlcoholEdu for College.

Initially, you will need to complete Part 1 of the course, which typically takes about two and a half (2.5) hours to finish.  You can break Part 1 down into multiple sessions, but the entirety must be completed by August 16, 2013.  A passing score of 75% is required to move on to Part 2.  Approximately 45 days after you complete Part 1 you will receive an automated email asking you to complete Part 2, which will take about 15 minutes.  The program is not complete until you submit both Part 1 and Part 2.

To take the course, you will need a computer with internet access and audio capabilities.  If you do not have access to a computer, you can use any available computer with internet access such as those at your public library. Some JSU computer labs are open to students who already have a JSU ID.

Please note that the course includes three surveys that offer you feedback on your alcohol-related attitudes and behaviors.  All individual survey responses are strictly confidential.  JSU officials will never see any individual student’s answers.  JSU will collect aggregate information to track trends and to develop programming specific to the campus.

Thank you for your prompt attention in completing Part 1 of the course.  If you have any questions about the program or problems accessing the course, please reference our website at http://www.jsu.edu/alcoholedu/ which will be updated frequently.  Have a great rest of the summer and wonderful freshman year.

Sincerely yours,
