LaVera Whitehead

LaVera Whitehead, known as Liz to those around campus, has been a student at Jacksonville State University since 2006. Originally from Mobile, Ala. Liz comes to JSU by way of transferring from another institution in the State of Alabama. She first visited campus with a group of friends for a campus tour. When asked about her first impression of JSU she commented, "When we arrived, we were surprised by how beautiful the campus really was. The tour guide told us about all of the different services Jacksonville State University provided, and we became even more interested in attending the school."

What was the deciding factor for Liz to attend JSU? Her academic advisor. "They not only showed me what would be left in my degree plan, but they talked with me about what I wanted to do after graduation and that was important to me."

As fate would have it, Liz has had the opportunity to work on campus while a student in the Visitor Center as a student tour guide. As a tour guide, she has been able to share her experiences with prospective students and answer their questions about JSU. The advice she gives to incoming students is simple. "Every student should attend a college that fits him or her best. Find out what it is you need to feel happy, supported, and secure. If a college provides that for you, then that is where you should prepare for your future, and Jacksonville State University has done that for me."
