Eligible faculty may submit portfolios and documentation of their accomplishments for promotion and/or tenure consideration. Links to the guidelines for the portfolio and the schedule for promotion and tenure process are listed below. Portfolios will be reviewed for recommendations by department heads, deans and the Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, and then submitted to the President for final approval.
The minimum criteria for promotion and tenure are found in the 2013 Faculty Handbook. Additional criteria are used by colleges and/or departments. The tenure policy establishes the ranks of assistant professor, associate professor, and professor as tenure-track positions. The rank of instructor, visiting faculty, adjunct faculty, and pro-rata temporary faculty appointments are ranks that are not eligible for tenure.
Portfolios will be submitted to the department head who will make them available for review. Portfolios submitted for promotion may be reviewed by all faculty in the candidate's department or college having rank equivalent to, or higher than, that being sought. Portfolios submitted for tenure may be reviewed by all tenured faculty in the candidate's department or college. Qualified faculty are invited to submit letters to the department head so information contained may be used in formulating a recommendation. To verify collegiality, letters may be included from professional peers and colleagues external to the University, as well as, within the University community.
